Start with a compatible Apple TV
Home Museum runs on an Apple TV device with tvOS 17 or later, connected to your television. You install it from the App Store on that device and use its remote to browse the app.
The Apple TV app built into a smart television is different from an Apple TV device. Seeing the Apple TV app on a Samsung, LG or other smart TV does not mean that television can install Home Museum. Home Museum is also not an iPhone or iPad app.
Find and install Home Museum
On your Apple TV, open the App Store and choose Search. Search for Home Museum and look for the art gallery and clock app. Open its listing and download it, then launch the app on your television.
If you are reading on a phone or computer, the App Store link on this page lets you inspect the listing. Complete installation on your Apple TV. Opening a link on your phone does not by itself install the app on your television.
If the app does not appear, check that you are searching the App Store on the Apple TV device and that it runs tvOS 17 or later. If you still need help, use the support link below and describe the device and what you see on screen.
Choose paintings for your room
Browse collections featuring artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Botticelli and Hokusai. Start with the available selection, open a collection and use your remote to move between paintings. Save favorite artists to make their collections easier to find next time.
Landscape and portrait paintings need different treatments on a wide television. For portrait works, choose a view that fills the screen or a view that shows the whole painting with museum style matting and a blurred backdrop. The full work option keeps the edges of the painting visible.
Set the clock and slideshow pace
You can stay with a painting and browse manually, or let the gallery advance automatically. Automatic intervals range from 30 seconds to five minutes, so you can choose how often the picture changes.
Customize the clock’s position and size, choose a 12 or 24 hour format, and adjust how the date appears. The clock and artwork share the same screen. Try a position that leaves your favorite part of the painting easy to see.
Understand the free selection and purchases
Selected artworks from several artists are available free for seven days. This is a limited selection, not access to every painting or a trial of the complete catalog.
To continue with artist collections, buy individual collections or choose the complete collection unlock. The complete unlock includes all current and future artist collections with one purchase. There is no subscription or automatic renewal. Check the price displayed inside the app before buying.
If you have already bought a collection, use Restore Purchases in the app with the Apple Account used for the original purchase. You do not need to create a separate Home Museum account.
An art app you open, not the system screensaver
Home Museum displays paintings and a clock while you use the app. It does not replace the Apple TV system screensaver and does not display art over another app.
If you are looking for art to enjoy on your television, open Home Museum when you want to view your collections. If you want to change the system screensaver itself, that is a separate Apple TV setting.
